The RYA Ocean Yachtmaster shorebased is a course in celestial navigation by sextant, worldwide meteorology and the worlds ocean currents. This course is designed for those who aspire to blue water cruising and ocean crossings and covers passage planning, both gnomonic (high latitudes) and mercator charts, yacht management, remote sailing, communications and electronic navigation just to name a few. The Ocean shorebase course is a must for those seriously planning offshore adventures.

What experience do I need?

You should have experience of coastal and offshore sailing and possess knowledge of all the subjects covered in the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shore based course.

Having successfully mastered the RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster navigation you are now well equipped to join the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean course and be privilege to the ingenuity of the great navigators.
